
Juneteenth in Galveston, Texas were created in 1865 to observe 19th June as the African-American emancipation day. Two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and the enslaved were free.
Many great men and women were in the Slavery born, but overcame obstacles and became a politician, so the spokesman for the many who have suffered and continue to suffer even after the Emancipation Proclamation. A Such a person is Booker T. Washington was born on 5 April 1856 in Hale's Ford, Virginia. His mother was a slave and his father was a white plantation owner. Born when a slave, he was a slave, according to the laws at that time. In 1865 they were granted their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation. He and his mother and siblings moved Malden, WV, to reunite with his step-father. At the age of nine years, he worked in various jobs with his mother and was even briefly set to work on a steamer. He became a houseboy for Viola Ruffner, the wife of General Lewis Ruffner. They encouraged him to school and study visit. Soon he was ready for higher learning and a student at Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute, where his type of work. From 1878 to 1879, he went to Wayland Seminary in Washington, DC, and returned to Hampton to teach. He was of Hampton officials for a client in a similar position school, which opened in Alabama recommended.
He was the first president of the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Policy Institute in 1881, the school, now Tuskegee University. Washington became friends with some very influential and prominent politicians and businessmen such as Andrew Carnegie and William Howard Taft, founded by several small schools to have to provide better educational facilities for African-Americans. One of his greatest friends with Henry H. Rogers, who was a capital in Standard Oil. Rogers, a millionaire who secretly funded 65 small country schools for African-Americans and won money at Tuskegee and Hampton universities. Washington had a great public speaker and was known as a brilliant teacher. His famous Atlanta Address of 1895 urges entrepreneurs to rent African-Americans as immigrants were arriving daily and to connect African-Americans in the workforce, changing employment practices and attitudes, and became one of the most important speeches of the American history. Although it was chosen only to university positions, Washington was quite influential in politics and made quite a mark on history.
Blanche K. Bruce was born into slavery first March 1841 in Virginia. During his travels from Virginia to Mississippi and Missouri then, he was taught by his master's son. He escaped from slavery at the beginning of the civil war and tried to win with the Union Army. He was refused entry and in 1864 he moved to Hannibal, Missouri, and opened the first school for blacks. Five years later he moved to Mississippi and became involved in politics. His appointments have been registrar of voters in Tallahatchee County, Tax Assessor in Bolivar County, was then sheriff and tax collector of the same region selected. On a trip to Jackson, Mississippi in 1870, Bruce made some very important Connections with powerful white Republicans and received several appointments that eventually led to him than the best-known black politician in Mississippi recognized. In 1874, he in the Senate of the United States by the Mississippi legislature elected. He convinced the government land grants in the west to black immigrants and called for the question Desegregation of U.S. military units. On 14 February 1879, he became the first black to preside over a Senate session Senator. He was an advocate for the humane Treatment of the Indians and became a lecturer and author of journal articles. He died in Washington on 17 March 1898.
John Roy Lynch was born in 10th September 1847 on a plantation near Vidalia, Louisiana. His father was Patrick Lynch, manager of the plantation and his mother was Catherine White, a slave. Patrick Lynch, who was an Irish immigrant, bought his wife and two children from the owner of the plantation, but because of a law in Louisiana, they had to the state, so that Lynch left them free. Lynch transfer the Property to his wife and children to a friend when he was sick and dying, with the promise that they would be treated as free individuals. But the friend to be broken Promise to redeem, and the family sold to a planter in Natchez, Mississippi.
Union forces freed John Roy, then 16, 1863. He worked several jobs and in 1866 he ran a photo shop in Natchez and learned to read from newspapers and books and was very interested in parliamentary law. In 1868 he gave a series support of speeches Mississippi law, all legal marriages are made slaves. In 1869 he became the Republican Club of Natchez in political appointments to the Military Governor of Mississippi . Discuss Impressed by his presentation, he was appointed justice of the peace and in the same year he was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives. He worked closely with Blanche K. Bruce, works primarily on black civil rights movement. In view of its birth as a slave and the lack of formal education, he truly right impact for African-Americans.
