President Abraham Lincoln signed Emancipation Proclamation, which actually contained two Executive Orders. The first was on 22 September 1862, the freedom for all Declared slaves in the Confederate States and the second order is with effect from 1st January 1863 that 10 states that set no to the first order is not complied named. This document implements the freedom of 4 million slaves during the Civil War. Many of these men joined the Union, free in their struggle for the reunification of our divided country. In total, about 200,000 blacks in the army and navy. These brave African Americans fought valiantly to preserve not only their new freedom, but to Protect and preserve all of this divided nation, the home was closed. Black soldiers were paid paid $ 10 a month as compared to $ 13 in one months white soldiers. The reason for this was that originally the black soldiers were used as laborers rather than combat troops.
The United States colored troops (USCT) as they were named played an intricate role in the successful conclusion of the American Civil War. Many of these brave men served as occupation troops, and never in any action committed. Those who have seen action in some of the most horrific battles of the war. On 18 54th Massachusetts Regiment in July 1863 began an assault on Fort Wagner in Charleston, South Carolina. Under heavy fire all this black regiment attacked by Colonel Robert Gould Shaw leading Fort Wagner. These brave soldiers held their positions for a while, but were overcome by the Confederate reinforcements. By the end of the battle killed Colonel Shaw along with nearly half of his men were. This battle proved the courage and determination to solve the black soldiers fighting for their freedom and their country.
It was shortly after this battle January 1884, a law that Congress, the same wage for the USCT was adopted. Participation and sacrifice of these brave African-Americans during our darkest days as a nation remains a big part of our history are.

Abraham Lincoln and Civil War America: A Biography $31.98 In Abraham Lincoln and Civil War America, historian William Gienapp provides a remarkably concise, up-to-date, and vibrant biography of the most revered figure in United States history. While the heart of the book focuses on the Civil War, Gienapp begins with a finely etched portrait of Lincoln’s early life, from pioneer farm boy to politician and lawyer in Springfield, to his stunning election as sixteenth president of the United States. Students will see how Lincoln grew during his years in office, how he developed a keen aptitude for military strategy and displayed enormous skill in dealing with his generals, and how his war strategy evolved from a desire to preserve the Union to emancipation and total war. Gienapp shows how Lincoln’s early years influenced his skills as commander-in-chief and demonstrates that, throughout the stresses of the war years, Lincoln’s basic character shone through: his good will and fundamental decency, his remarkable self-confidence matched with genuine humility, his immunity to the passions and hatreds the war spawned, his extraordinary patience, and his timeless devotion. A former backwoodsman and country lawyer, Abraham Lincoln rose to become one of our greatest presidents. This biography offers a vivid account of Lincoln’s dramatic ascension to the pinnacle of American history. |
